Goshen Public Library is thrilled to announce the official launch of the Give Me 5 Early Literacy Campaign, a transformative initiative focused on nurturing young minds through the five fundamental practices of early literacy: Read, Write, Talk, Sing, and Play. The Give Me 5 Early Literacy Campaign offers a holistic approach to child development by emphasizing the importance of these five practices:
Engaging in meaningful conversations with children expands their vocabulary, enhances their communication skills, and strengthens the bonds within families and communities.
Little Explorers promotes kindergarten readiness and encourages talking between caregivers and children through various types of interactivestorytelling. Open to 4- and 5-year-olds along with a parent or guardian.
Music is a universal language that enhances memory and language development. Singing with children is not only fun but also a valuable learning experience.
Baby & Me Lapsit
Baby & Me promotes early literacy through singing as a way of slowing down language and playing with the smaller sounds in words.
Sharing stories and books with children sparks their imaginations and fosters a love for reading that lasts a lifetime.
The Bookmark Bunch gives second gradersa chance to strengthen and developindependent reading skills and buildconfidence through reading aloud andactivities related to the books.
Encouraging children to explore writing, whether through drawing, scribbling, or crafting their first words, builds essential literacy skills and self-expression.
Little Wonders (Preschool and Toddler Storytime) helps kids build pre-writing skills like tracing, cutting, matching, and other fine motor activities.
Play is the work of childhood. It fosters creativity, problem-solving, and social skills. Through play, children learn about the world around them.
An open playtime for children age 2-5. Join us for free play with other kids. Enjoy playing with new toys that are not always available.
Parents are their child’s first teacher, and with the Give Me 5 campaign, we aim to empower every parent and caregiver with the knowledge and resources to make a lasting impact on their child’s future.
Setting your child up for academic success begins at home. With the Give Me 5 Campaign, we’re providing families with the keys to unlock their child’s potential. The Give Me 5 Early Literacy Campaign recognizes the invaluable role that libraries play in nurturing early literacy. We are proud to collaborate with libraries as steadfast partners in this initiative. Libraries serve as community hubs, providing caregivers with access to an extensive array of FREE resources, from books and interactive programs to expert guidance. They are not just repositories of knowledge but vibrant spaces where children can explore, learn, and grow. With the library’s unwavering support, families have the opportunity to enrich their children’s lives and embark on the path to academic success.
This campaign is more than just a call to action; it’s a community-driven movement. The library is there to support caregivers every step of the way. Libraries play a pivotal role in providing free resources, guidance, and a nurturing environment for families to cultivate early literacy skills. We invite you to join us in this inspiring journey to ignite a passion for reading and learning in children everywhere. We aim to make the Give Me 5 Early Literacy Campaign accessible and impactful for families of all backgrounds.
