Friends of the Goshen Public Library Enhance Goshen’s Literacy with $2,500 Donation

The Friends of the Goshen Public Library’s generous matching donation of $2,500 to the Summer Reading Book Giveaways will put 500 books directly in the hands of children and teens in Goshen–for free.

Since 2021, the Summer Reading Book Giveaways have enriched the lives of Goshen’s youth by providing more than 5,500 free books. Any child or teen who stops by the weekly event in June gets to choose a book to take home and grow their personal library.

The Friends offered to match up to $2,500 raised by the library during the month of February in order to double the impact of each donation from the community.

“Matching the community’s generosity has showcased all that the library does, all that we do as Friends of the library, and the generosity of the Goshen community,” said Carol VanFleet, President of the Friends of the Library.

Along with direct donations and the matching funds from the Friends of the Library, GPL also plans to host a Grown-Up Spelling Bee at Goshen Brewing Company on April 12 to benefit the Book Giveaways.

“We are so thankful for the community support for our Book Giveaways and especially the generous match from the Friends,” said Ann-Margaret Rice, Director of the Library. “Our gratitude can never be expressed enough!”
