Mother Goose Monday Nursery Rhyme Time is held twice a year for two twelve week sessions, fall (starting in September) and spring (starting in March). During the half-hour sessions, simple stories, fingerplays, rhymes, songs and activities that  develop motor skills, create both an educational and entertaining environment. A playtime is also incorporated into the sessions, during which parents may meet and share, while their children play with safe and educational toys and manipulatives. This is a great time for families of various backgrounds to expose their children to the sounds and rhythms of the English language. The programs always begin and end with the same sharing songs and the same book, thus preserving consistency, predictability, and security for the children.

Many programs for babies and toddlers merely simplify activities designed for older preschoolers. Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Time is a program specifically geared for children two and under. The purpose of the program is to provide children with an exciting opportunity to develop age-appropriate social skills and learning proficiencies. Mother Goose encourages early literacy and develops a love of libraries….right from birth!

I brought my daughter, Leah, when she was 6 months old (now she’s 3 1/2 years) to Mother Goose singing and rhymes at the library once a week.  I noticed she learned how to interact with the children, and now she is very social.  I think the Mother Goose program helped her a lot!
